Making Sense
"Up until I moved to England, just three months ago, I knew exactly who I was, Julia Lemonides, fourteen years old, confident, popular, artistic and lively..."
Back home in Cyprus, Julia has everything - good friends, confidence, a beloved cousin, a pet cat…and glorious sunshine. But all this changes when her family move to London and she has to start all over again. Julia doesn't know a word of English, and to begin with she feels like an outsider, lonely and isolated. But with time, and with the help of new friends, family and her sense of humour and determination, she begins to adapt to the new climate, language and culture.

"Making Sense is a deftly realised novel about a Cypriot girl's coming to terms with life in north London, being unsettled by the coarse brashness of her new British friends, but at the same time energised by the vibrancy of the city." Michael Thorn, Times Literary Supplement
Bitter Sweet
"Even though I was stressed out and wanted to rush home I just stood there, letting him kiss me for ages and melting into his arms, It was brilliant. OhmyGod, I thought, this is such a terrible two-timing thing to do! How can I want to kiss Sam and still really like Nima too?"
Julia has a lovely parent-approved boyfriend called Nima and she is happily settled in London following her traumatic first year after arriving from Cyprus, not knowing a word of English. So why is she thinking about Sam? Sam is blued-eyed, fit and more than a little bit dangerous, and Julia can't get him out of her mind.
Last year the main problem she faced was trying to make sense of what boys, or anyone else, said to her. This year she faces a whole lot of new dilemmas about life in England, and which boy is right for her. Even though she's enjoying her new, exciting life in London her native Cyprus is also always in her thoughts.
At the moment everything for her seems to be both bitter and sweet.
